Bathroom Mirror Size Guide
Choosing a bathroom mirror seems simple, until you’re standing in the aisle wondering whether 750mm is too small over a 900mm vanity, whether round mirrors are still in, and whether the LED upgrade is worth it. The sizing part, at least, follows a few reliable rules. Here’s the guide we give customers at our Malaga showroom.
The golden rule: match the mirror to the vanity
Your mirror and vanity work as a visual pair, and the proportions matter more than the exact numbers:
- Same width or slightly narrower. The classic approach: a mirror the same width as the vanity looks built-in and intentional; up to about 100mm narrower still reads as matched.
- Never wider than the vanity. A mirror overhanging the vanity edges almost always looks like a mistake.
- For double vanities: either one wide mirror spanning both basins, or two matching mirrors centred over each basin. Two rounds over a 1500mm+ double vanity is one of the most-requested looks in Perth renovations right now.
As a quick reference: a 600mm vanity pairs with a 500–600mm mirror, a 900mm vanity with a 750–900mm mirror, a 1200mm vanity with a 900–1200mm mirror, and a 1500mm double with either a 1500mm single or two 600–750mm mirrors.
How high, and how big vertically?
Mount the mirror so its centre sits at eye level. For most households that means the centre around 1600–1650mm off the floor, with the bottom edge roughly 200–300mm above the vanity top (clear of splashes and the tap arc). Vertically, bigger is almost always better: a taller mirror bounces more light around the room and suits households with a mix of heights. Something like Fienza’s EMPIRE Pill Shape Framed Mirror at 600x1200mm gives you a full head-and-shoulders view without dominating the wall. For small bathrooms, an oversized mirror is the single cheapest way to make the room feel bigger. See our large mirrors range.
Round, pill, arch or rectangular?
Round mirrors soften a bathroom full of hard rectangles (vanity, tiles, shower screen) and work beautifully over single vanities and in powder rooms. Size up: a 900mm round like the Brooklyn Round Mirror ($198) has real presence, where a 600mm round can look lost on a big wall. Browse our round mirrors for the full range.
Pill and arch shapes are the current favourites in Perth renovations. They give you the softness of a curve with more usable mirror area than a circle, and they suit narrow walls.
Rectangular mirrors remain the practical choice for maximum coverage, double vanities and minimalist bathrooms.
LED, framed, or mirror cabinet?
LED mirrors have gone from luxury to default in the last few years, and for good reason: the ring of light around your reflection is far better for makeup and shaving than a downlight behind your head. Entry pricing is very reasonable now. The Eclipse LED Mirror starts at $359.10 and features to look for include a demister pad (no more wiping fog after a shower, easily the most-loved feature we sell), dimmable brightness, and colour-temperature switching between warm and cool white. One planning note: LED mirrors need power behind the mirror, so they’re easiest to add during a renovation.
Framed mirrors bring warmth and let you echo your tapware. A brass-framed mirror over matte black tapware, for example, ties a scheme together for no extra effort.
Mirror cabinets (shaving cabinets) are the storage cheat code for small bathrooms: your mirror and your medicine cabinet in one footprint. Options like the Canterbury LED Shaving Cabinet combine concealed storage with LED lighting. If your vanity is on the small side, a mirror cabinet effectively buys back a drawer’s worth of space.
Quick checklist before you buy
- Measure your vanity width: mirror should match it or run slightly narrower
- Check the wall: power available? (needed for LED and lit cabinets)
- Bottom edge 200–300mm above the vanity top, centre at eye level
- Small bathroom? Go bigger than you think, or choose a mirror cabinet for storage
- Match the frame or trim finish to your tapware, not your tiles

Brightness, glass quality and LED colour temperature are impossible to judge from photos. Our Malaga showroom has our full mirror range: LED, framed, round and cabinets, on display and lit, so you can compare them side by side at warehouse prices.
