A spa bath adds jets and a pump to a conventional bath, turning it from somewhere you soak into somewhere you actually go to unwind. It is a considered purchase rather than an impulse one, since it needs power, drainage and access built in from the start. How many jets, and where
Jet count is the headline number, but placement matters more. Twelve to sixteen well-positioned jets covering the back, lower back and feet will feel better than a higher count spread thinly. Contour systems shape the jets around where the body actually sits. If you have a particular reason for wanting a spa — a sore back, recovery after work — say so when you are choosing, because it changes which layout suits.

What has to be planned in
A spa bath needs a dedicated power circuit and an accessible pump. That access panel is not optional; pumps need servicing eventually, and a spa tiled in with no way to reach the equipment becomes an expensive problem. Filled weight is the other consideration, particularly upstairs or on a suspended floor. Your plumber and electrician need to be part of this decision early, not at fit-off.

Living with one
Spa baths need running periodically to keep the lines clear, even if nobody is using them. If the bath is likely to sit unused for months at a time, a good freestanding or inset bath is the more honest choice.
