Undermount Basins

An undermount basin fixes beneath the benchtop so the stone runs unbroken to the edge of the bowl. There is no rim to catch grime and nothing to wipe around — you sweep straight off the bench into the basin. Of all the mounting styles, it is the easiest to keep clean. What it needs
An undermount basin has to go under a benchtop that can carry it and be cut and polished at the opening — in practice that means stone or a solid surface. It will not work under a standard ceramic top, and it is not a straightforward retrofit into an existing bench unless that bench is stone and you are prepared to have it re-cut. This is a decision made with the vanity, not after it.

Bowl shape and bench depth
Rectangular bowls make the most of a narrow bench and suit a squared-off bathroom. Oval bowls are more forgiving of a shallow cabinet because the curve pulls the widest point away from the front edge. Whichever you choose, check the bowl depth against the cabinet — undermount bowls hang lower than inset ones and can foul the top drawer, which is why many vanities designed for them use a U-shaped drawer.
