Basin Mixers

The basin mixer is used more often than any other tap in the house, so the feel of the lever and the quality of the cartridge matter as much as the finish. QA Bathroom Warehouse carries 96 basin mixers at our Malaga warehouse in Perth.
Matching the mixer to the basin
Standard height mixers suit inset, semi-inset and undermount bowls. Above counter bowls sit higher, so they need a tall mixer or a wall spout to clear the rim, and the spout has to reach far enough that water lands near the centre of the bowl rather than the back wall. If your bench has no tap hole, look at Wall Basin/Bath Mixers instead.
What to look for
Check the WELS star rating if water use matters to you, and check the spout height against your bowl depth so you can still fit your hands underneath. A ceramic disc cartridge is standard on quality tapware and is the part that determines how the lever feels in five years. Aerated outlets soften the flow and reduce splashing on shallow bowls.
Finishes
Chrome is the easiest to match and the most forgiving of water marks. Matte black looks striking against white but shows spotting in hard water. Brushed nickel and brushed gold sit in between and hide fingerprints well.
