Shower Arms

The shower arm is the piece that carries the head out from the wall or down from the ceiling, and it does more to set the look of a shower than most people expect. Swapping an arm and rose is also one of the few bathroom upgrades you can do without touching tiling. QA Bathroom Warehouse stocks more than 25 shower arms at our Malaga warehouse in Perth.

Wall, raised or ceiling
A standard wall arm runs straight out from the wall at the existing outlet height and is the simple replacement. A hi-rise or raised arm angles upward to lift the rose higher, which is worth doing if your existing outlet was set low or if anyone in the house is tall. A ceiling arm drops straight down from above and gives you a true overhead fall with nothing visible on the wall, though the plumbing has to be run through the ceiling, so it belongs in a renovation rather than a swap.

Sizing the arm
Length is the thing to measure. The arm needs to bring the rose far enough into the shower that you are standing under the water rather than reaching for it, and 350mm to 400mm covers most standard enclosures. A wide shower or a rose mounted on the short wall may need more. For ceiling arms, work out the drop from the ceiling to where the rose should sit, allowing for the height of the tallest person using it.
