Floor Standing Bath Mixers

A floor standing bath mixer rises from the floor beside a freestanding bath, where there is no wall behind to mount a spout to. It is a design decision as much as a plumbing one — the tap becomes part of the bath’s silhouette rather than something attached to a wall. Plan it before the slab
This is the important part. A floor mounted mixer needs its plumbing set into the floor at an exact position, and that position is fixed once the slab is poured and the floor is tiled. The tap has to land where the bath will actually sit, allowing for the bath’s final position rather than a rough guess. Get the bath chosen first, mark the mixer position off its specification sheet, and have your plumber set out before anything is poured. Moving one afterwards means cutting the floor.

With or without a handshower
Many floor mounted mixers include a handshower on a flexible hose. In a bath that also gets used for washing children or rinsing hair, it is worth having. In a bath that is purely for soaking, a plain filler is the cleaner line. Decide before ordering, because the two are different fittings rather than an accessory you add later.

Height and fill
Check the spout height against the rim of your bath so water clears it comfortably, and consider fill rate — a large freestanding bath filled through a narrow spout tests anyone’s patience. Progressive mixers give finer control over temperature than a standard cartridge.
