Wall Top Assemblies

A wall top assembly is the pair of taps that sits on the wall above a basin or bath, working with a separate wall spout instead of a single bench-mounted mixer. It is the traditional three-piece setup, and it is having a strong revival because it clears the benchtop completely and makes the area around the basin far easier to wipe down. Body only or complete set
Many of the assemblies in this range are sold body only, which means you are buying the working valve that gets rough-in behind the wall. The visible handles and cover plates come as a separate trim kit, usually chosen in the finish you want. This split is deliberate: it lets a builder rough the plumbing in early and lets you settle the finish later, and it means a finish change down the track does not require reopening the wall. Complete sets that include the spout are also available, and are the simpler choice if you are replacing like for like.

Getting the spout right
Spout projection is the measurement that catches people out. The spout has to reach far enough over the bowl that water lands near the centre, not against the back wall of the basin, and the standard 220mm projection suits most basins. A wide or deep above-counter bowl often needs a longer spout, and an offset spout is worth considering where the tap centres and the basin centre do not line up. Measure from the finished wall face to the middle of your bowl before ordering.
