Description
In an accessible toilet the rail beside the pan often has to double as the place for the toilet paper. The Metlam Drop Down Grab Rail with Toilet Roll Holder does both jobs: lower it for support when sitting down or standing up, and the integrated holder keeps one standard roll within easy reach. When the rail is not needed it stores in an upright position, clearing the side of the pan for wheelchair transfers. It suits accessible toilets in hospitals, aged care, shopping centres, offices and schools, as well as home bathrooms.
The rail is made from grade 304 stainless steel with 32mm x 1.2mm grab rail tubing and seamless welds. It is surface mounted with visible fixings, and the universal design suits left hand or right hand installation, so one product covers either side of the pan. The satin stainless steel finish suits busy commercial washrooms.

Choosing a grab rail
Grab rails give support where people sit, stand and turn: beside the toilet, inside the shower and next to the bath. Straight rails suit ambulant cubicles, showers and general support. 90 degree rails combine a horizontal and a vertical grip for sitting down and getting up. Drop down rails fold out of the way so an accessible toilet stays clear for wheelchair transfers. Accessible and ambulant toilets in Australian public and commercial buildings are designed to AS 1428.1, which sets rail positions, a 30 to 40mm tube diameter and the gap between rail and wall.
Fixing matters as much as the rail. Concealed-fix flanges hide the screws for a neater, tamper-resistant finish, and every rail must go into studs, noggins or solid masonry that can carry the load. Satin stainless steel is the hard-wearing standard for hospitals, aged care, schools and offices; matte black suits homes and boutique commercial fit-outs where the rail should look like part of the design.
