Description
The Lotus Basin Mixer is the standard height tap in the Lotus range, made for basins where the spout does not need to climb over a raised rim: inset basins, undermount basins and semi inset basins on a vanity top. The body is round with a gently curved spout and a single lever on top, so it reads as soft and simple next to a white basin, and it takes one hole in the vanity top or basin deck.
At about 155mm high with the outlet around 123mm above the base and a 162mm reach, the spout lands water in the middle of a standard bowl without splashing. The body is solid brass with a ceramic disc cartridge, which gives smooth control and a drip free shut off, and the flexible braided hoses make the plumbing connection straightforward. It comes in Chrome, Matt Black and Brushed Nickel, with the coloured finishes applied over the brass for resistance to water spots and fingerprints.

Choosing the right height basin mixer
A basin mixer only has to do one thing well: put the water in the middle of the bowl at a comfortable height. Get the height wrong and either the spout sits so low that you knock your hands on it, or so high that the water splashes out of a shallow basin. The rule of thumb is that the outlet should sit roughly 100 to 150mm above the rim of the basin.
For an inset or undermount basin the rim is level with the vanity top, so a standard mixer like this one, with its outlet about 123mm above the bench, is right. For a semi inset basin the rim is a little higher and a standard mixer still works. Once the basin sits fully on top of the bench, the rim can be 110 to 150mm up, and you need a medium or tall mixer to keep the same clearance.
When you set out the tap hole, allow at least 60mm from the back edge of the basin so the mixer base sits flat, and make sure the lever can lift fully without hitting a mirror or splashback behind it. Fit the flexible hoses before the mixer goes through the top, because they are hard to reach afterwards.
