Metlam’s Drop Down Grab Rail with Universal Call Button puts a call button holder on the rail, right where a user’s hand already is. It is made from grade 304 stainless steel with 32mm x 1.2mm tubing and seamless welds and measures 315mmH x 104mmW x 857mmD. A swivelling call button holder lets the rail work for left hand or right hand use, and the rail stores upright when not in use. Surface mounted with visible fixings in satin stainless steel. GST-free as a disability aid.

Description

Where a person may need to call for help from the toilet, the best place for the call button is on the rail they are already holding. Metlam’s Drop Down Grab Rail with Universal Call Button carries a swivelling call button holder, so the same rail can be installed on either side of the pan and the button still sits in the right place. The rail lowers for support and stores in an upright position when not in use, leaving clear space for side transfers. It is designed for hospitals, aged care homes, rehabilitation centres and accessible public toilets.

The rail is made from grade 304 stainless steel with 32mm x 1.2mm grab rail tubing and seamless welds. It is surface mounted with visible fixings, and the universal design suits left hand or right hand installation, so one product covers either side of the pan. The swivelling holder is what makes the left or right hand set-up possible.

Choosing a grab rail

Grab rails give support where people sit, stand and turn: beside the toilet, inside the shower and next to the bath. Straight rails suit ambulant cubicles, showers and general support. 90 degree rails combine a horizontal and a vertical grip for sitting down and getting up. Drop down rails fold out of the way so an accessible toilet stays clear for wheelchair transfers. Accessible and ambulant toilets in Australian public and commercial buildings are designed to AS 1428.1, which sets rail positions, a 30 to 40mm tube diameter and the gap between rail and wall.

Fixing matters as much as the rail. Concealed-fix flanges hide the screws for a neater, tamper-resistant finish, and every rail must go into studs, noggins or solid masonry that can carry the load. Satin stainless steel is the hard-wearing standard for hospitals, aged care, schools and offices; matte black suits homes and boutique commercial fit-outs where the rail should look like part of the design.
