The Metlam Universal Sliding Shower Rail Kit combines an 1100mm x 700mm grade 304 satin stainless steel grab rail with a chrome hand shower on a sliding bracket. The rail is concealed fixed with 78mm diameter mounts and suits left or right hand installation. The kit includes an ABS handpiece and slider, stainless steel hose and brass wall elbow, with a 6L/min, 5 star WELS shower and WaterMark WMKT21090. GST-free as a disability aid.

Description

Accessible and ambulant showers need a rail to hold and a hand shower that can be set at the right height for each user. The Metlam Universal Sliding Shower Rail Kit does both jobs with one product: the shower slides along the vertical section of an 1100mm x 700mm grab rail, so a seated or standing user can position it where it suits them. It is a common choice for hospitals, aged care, disability housing, hotels and home bathroom renovations.

The grab rail is grade 304 satin stainless steel, concealed fixed with 78mm diameter mounts. The shower kit has a bright chrome finish and is made up of an ABS plastic handpiece, stainless steel hose, brass wall elbow and ABS plastic slider. The shower head has a maximum flow rate of 6 litres per minute with a 5 star WELS rating, the kit carries WaterMark WMKT21090, and the hose is rated for standard pressure of 150 to 350kPa as per AS/NZS 3662. The rail is universal, so the same kit works for left or right hand installation. Kit components are the ML_HSK_CHROME shower and the MLR1078_SS grab rail.

Choosing a grab rail

Grab rails give support where people sit, stand and turn: beside the toilet, inside the shower and next to the bath. Straight rails suit ambulant cubicles, showers and general support. 90 degree rails combine a horizontal and a vertical grip for sitting down and getting up. Drop down rails fold out of the way so an accessible toilet stays clear for wheelchair transfers. Accessible and ambulant toilets in Australian public and commercial buildings are designed to AS 1428.1, which sets rail positions, a 30 to 40mm tube diameter and the gap between rail and wall.

Fixing matters as much as the rail. Concealed-fix flanges hide the screws for a neater, tamper-resistant finish, and every rail must go into studs, noggins or solid masonry that can carry the load. Satin stainless steel is the hard-wearing standard for hospitals, aged care, schools and offices; matte black suits homes and boutique commercial fit-outs where the rail should look like part of the design.
