The Metlam Vandal Resistant Backrest is a toilet backrest kit made from grade 304 stainless steel in a satin stainless steel finish. It combines the Metlam MLR119MKII backrest with a vandal resistant VP_PAD, and measures 158mm high, 605mm wide and 447mm deep. The pad height adjusts by 20mm and the depth by 100mm to suit the installation. It surface mounts with concealed fixings, ideal for public and high-traffic accessible toilets. GST-free as a disability aid.

Description

Public accessible toilets take a lot of wear, and a standard padded backrest does not always survive it. The Metlam Vandal Resistant Backrest pairs the Metlam backrest frame with a vandal resistant pad, making it a sensible choice for shopping centres, transport hubs, parks, schools and other high-traffic accessible toilets.

The kit is made from grade 304 stainless steel with a satin stainless steel finish and surface mounts with concealed fixings. It measures 158mm high, 605mm wide and 447mm deep. The pad height can be adjusted by 20mm and the depth by 100mm, so the installer can set the pad position for the pan and cistern. Spare parts are available separately: the VP_PAD pad and the MLR119_WALLBRACKET arm mount, which includes the wall mounting plate.

Features

  • Grade 304 stainless steel, satin stainless steel finish
  • Kit includes 1 x MLR119MKII backrest and 1 x VP_PAD vandal resistant pad
  • 20mm adjustable pad height
  • 100mm adjustable depth
  • Surface mount, concealed fix
  • Spare pad (VP_PAD) and arm mount (MLR119_WALLBRACKET) available

Dimensions: 158mm H x 605mm W x 447mm D
Mounting: surface mount, concealed fix
Fixing: into studs, noggins or solid masonry

Choosing a grab rail

Grab rails give support where people sit, stand and turn: beside the toilet, inside the shower and next to the bath. Straight rails suit ambulant cubicles, showers and general support. 90 degree rails combine a horizontal and a vertical grip for sitting down and getting up. Drop down rails fold out of the way so an accessible toilet stays clear for wheelchair transfers. Accessible and ambulant toilets in Australian public and commercial buildings are designed to AS 1428.1, which sets rail positions, a 30 to 40mm tube diameter and the gap between rail and wall.

Fixing matters as much as the rail. Concealed-fix flanges hide the screws for a neater, tamper-resistant finish, and every rail must go into studs, noggins or solid masonry that can carry the load. Satin stainless steel is the hard-wearing standard for hospitals, aged care, schools and offices; matte black suits homes and boutique commercial fit-outs where the rail should look like part of the design.
